Drive On 03:07
Drive On The world spins round and things fly off Are the stars up in heaven all gone I am listening for what does not get lost I hold back and then I drive on Its ok you went away, I am getting through Are the stars up in heaven all gone But there’s some stuff that I forgot how to do I hold back and then I drive on CHORUS I’m working hard to let it all fall apart Not to throw the world out of my heart Watch the feathers fly from my wings Be a small and a naked thing All the ways we untie the ties that bind Are the stars up in heaven all gone It’s good, it’s bad, and I am fine I hold back and then I drive on CHORUS I’m working hard to let it all fall apart Not to throw the world out of my heart Watch the feathers fly from my wings Be a small and a naked thing Bridge: Some days are just hard CHORUS I’m working hard to let it all fall apart Not to throw the world out of my heart Watch the feathers fly from my wings Be a small and a naked thing ©Cosy Sheridan, Cosyng Music BMI 2013

Pretty Bird 03:13
Pretty Bird In a certain tree I will make my nest You can write to me at this address I’ll be there and then I’ll be gone No matter where we live, we all move on Make me a raven’s wing I will return in the spring When the desert is a beautiful thing I will fly CHORUS Oh how the pretty bird sings Fly away Oh how the pretty bird sings Fly away Do you know your neighbors Do you know your town Do they pick you up When you fall down Do you grow best in a certain kind of ground Do we get to keep every home we ever found I make it up as I go along I make my way and I make my song Make me a raven, I will fly home © Cosy Sheridan, Cosyng Music BMI 2014

The First Song Ever since you left I have wondered What would be the first song How to wrap a string of words Around all the ways we went wrong All the phrases I started All the pages I erased I’ve thrown out as many lines as I watched over time Find their way onto your face When I was younger this sort of song Was an easier thing to write Back then the you was always wrong And the I was always right But I have seen you bring about More than one moment of grace It’ll be a very long time Till she can draw every line That I know by heart on your face Ever since you left I have wondered How to be your friend For all the bright new beginnings There is a price to pay for the end It’s not a complicated story Just a question of where to begin Everyone’s heard a song of two her’s Fighting over just one him In all that I let go of And all that I embrace All of the time and every line You left behind on my face I have heard about how forgiveness Will help me to move on I don’t know if this is forgiveness All I know is this is the first song © Cosy Sheridan, Cosyng Music BMI 2014

Rise Out of the Water Things got complicate and things got hard When someone pitched a tent in our backyard The good went bad, the bad went good This did not end the way I thought it would No one was wrong and no one was right No one was sleeping too well at night Up in the tower the queen is crying Someone has to say the kingdom is dying CH
Rise out of the water I will believe In the cup of human kindness There are reasons to leave See what comes over the castle wall We try and we fail We rise and we fall Sometimes we find the kingdom renewed Can you hear Guinevere what I am telling you CH
Rise out of the water I will believe In the cup of human kindness There are reasons to leave The lady of the Lake held a sword in her hand She rose out of the water and said if you do this right You can go down in darkness or go down in light It is not explained It might be revealed The kingdom falls the kingdom is healed © Cosy Sheridan Cosyng Music BMI 2013

Sing Goodbye 03:10
Sing Goodbye I read your letter The big goodbye The train will come We are born and we die Is there a beautiful reason Is it a beautiful sight The nightbird flies into the morning light I heard about All the pain you’re in I saw your picture You are looking very thin I am looking for the muscle That makes happiness I like things neat And this is a mess CHORUS: I sing when I don’t know I sing to hold on And I sing to let go I sing as you fall from the sky I sing I’m sorry, I sing goodbye In all this loss Something found I dreamed last night I found gold in the ground Beneath the tree we had planted That did not survive You lifted up that tree and you held it high CHORUS: I sing when I don’t know I sing to hold on And I sing to let go I sing as you fall from the sky I sing I’m sorry, I sing goodbye © Cosy Sheridan, Cosyng Music 2013 BMI

Lost and Found I am the sort who is easily lost That thing with the tree and which side is the moss Means nothing to me and I come apart That would assume that I understand How north and south tell me where I am When I don’t know where I am, it’s hard on my heart My sense of direction is deep inside It does not pay attention when I drive It’s best if I have some help when I travel alone So a voice in a box talks to me in the car It says here is where you are, out on the edge of your comfort zone CHORUS The map is flat, the world is round Some things get lost, and some get found This is for those who do not know The easily lost who still bravely go Out there and try I said I’m lost, you said I am too I feel pretty found when I’m around you The world plays dice and we get tossed Up in the air it’s no wonder we get lost I think I understand I am in an unmapped land But I know where I am when I am following my heart ©Cosy Sheridan Cosyng Music BMI 2014

Sweet Animal 03:31
Sweet Animal Sweet animal we are just in time It’s the season of the Clementine I’d buy them all if you’d be mine In the season of the Clementine Sweet animal we cannot fail The clementines are all on sale Sometimes bright, sometimes pale The clementines are all on sale CHORUS Sweet Animal all the ways we care Clementines everywhere Bruised but not beyond repair Clementines everywhere Sweet animal when the house is cold The clementines have all been sold Who can say what the future holds Even clementines get old CHORUS Sweet Animal all the ways we care Clementines everywhere Bruised but not beyond repair Clementines everywhere © Cosy Sheridan, Cosyng Music 2013 BMI

Welcome to Boston I’ve returned to the land where I was born Where the cautious driver is scorned Where they believe in the hand and in the horn And if the social fabric gets torn Well they’ve got places to go And things to do That are on the other side of you Important people coming through And you’re in their way Welcome to Boston Have a nice day The occasional insult gets hurled When they are late for ruling the world You might think that you should go first But the master of the universe Is on the phone And on the wheel He’s closing in while he closes his deal He’s on task and you’re in his way Welcome to Boston Have a nice day They have a busy life planned The reins are in their hand Who’s really happy Life is just stress They have medication They do not need rest They just need you to get out of their way Welcome to Boston Have a nice day © Cosy Sheridan Cosyng Music BMI

Charlie is my Darling One day Charlie went to work And he was not seen again He was replaced by a series of empty men Who came back to the house Sat in his chair Some of us noticed Charlie wasn’t there Charlie is my darling He shines in the night The empty men they carry no such light Charlie has a voice Like a strong man would speak The empty men: their voices are weak CHORUS Charlie you’re my darling Wherever you may Charlie you’re my darling Come back to me Don’t leave me here all alone Charlie you’re my darling Come home The god of the job Stole him away Took all his life by the end of the day I sat down by his chair I said here’s what we’ll do You hold on to me And I’ll hold on to you. CHORUS Charlie you’re my darling Wherever you may Charlie you’re my darling Come back to me Don’t leave me here all alone Charlie you’re my darling Come home Bridge: We all go to work And then we come home again We all have our days of the empty men But love is kind If it’s any kind of love at all © Cosy Sheridan, Cosyng Music 2013 BMI

The Sandman’s Ride Sleep little boy I’ll be downstairs Looking out for your troubles Watching over your cares You are safe in this night We are all nearby Sleep little boy Take the sandman’s ride Sleep little boy You are made of the dust from the stars So fly high in your dreams And remember who you are Where you are not afraid And you don’t have to hide Sleep little boy Take the sandman’s ride Sleep little boy Until you wake Let go of your worries Of the turns your world might take When the boat looks small And the sea looks wide Sleep little boy Take the sandman’s ride © Cosy Sheridan, Cosyng Music 2013 BMI

about

This is the most personal collection of songs I’ve written in a long time.

These songs were written on the journey my life took from 2012 to 2014: the ending and loss of my long-time partnership with TR Ritchie; finding a new life and love; moving back to New England; and then in December 2013, learning that TR was ill with pancreatic cancer.

In many ways TR begins and ends this song cycle: the first song I wrote was “The First Song” (track#3) and the last was “Sing Goodbye” (track 5).
Thank you for listening.
