Track Name: Eurydice Goodnight
Eurydice Goodnight

Sweet Eurydice Goodnight
your open sky your morning light
how do I let go of your hand
a woman in a desert land

I will sing of summers on the lawn
the cherries bloom and then they’re gone
all I love leaving soon
the other side, the other room

let go
we hold so tight
Eurydice goodnight

Are you ready now, I will turn my head
be alive and let the dead by dead
if I am to sing a living sound
then one of us must turn around

what do I do about you Eurydice?
What do I do with all of this memory
a woman in a desert land
how do I let go of your hand?

the open sky
the morning light
Eurydice goodnight

let go
we hold so tight
Eurydice goodnight

Track Name: I Am Your Landlord
I am your landlord
I thought I’d drop by to see what you’d done to the house
you know the coffeemaker goes on the other side of the sink
next to the toaster
what do you mean you don’t have a toaster?
what’s wrong with you?

I am your landlord
I have firm ideas about what is clean
and how it’s next to godliness
and this house isn’t going to heaven
with that bathroom
let’s just close the door

I thought there were just the two of you
I didn’t know about your 15 friends
who would come by to do their laundry
every weekend

I am your landlord
tension with the tenants
I’m your landlord
pay the rent with some repentance
I’m your landlord
confrontation over the occupation of the house

I am your landlord
I think some things are right and some are wrong
I don’t think the kitchen is where the guest bed belongs
what’s in the guest bedroom?
should we open that door?

I know the you said that your sister
she is living out on the land
I think and her dog are living in the driveway
in that white camper van

I am your landlord
tension with the tenants
I’m your landlord
pay the rent with some repentance
I’m your landlord
confrontation over the occupation of the house
i’m your landlord
do you ever draw your blinds?
I’m your landlord
Just one more time
I’m your landlord
confrontation over the occupation of the house

Track Name: Linda's Song (We Sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow)
Long long ago we sang Somewhere Over The Rainbow
when they asked the three of us to sing
we were young and we were strong
now your voice is gone
Long ago we sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow with you

Susie she would start
You came in next with the lower part
Your voices were the engine in the plane
I would come in high and we would fly
Long ago we sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Late at night you’d sing The Grey Funnel Line
with Jay at The Press Room at closing time
when he was in his cups - your voice could hold anyone up
but we all fall down

Now things have come undone
you’re as brave as they come
and you talk with your hands and your eyes
with time all things will fail
you were such a nightingale
Long ago we sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Maybe farther along we’ll understand why the song
has voices come in and then go
maybe we’ll know all about it
when we are over the rainbow

Track Name: Napoleon - The Musical
I will sing of an early French export
Napoleon and his empire - both were short
before the Louvre or Catherine Deneuve
there was the man (a)
he said “I will take Vienna”

Ch
We sing Waterloo, the Guillotine
The empress Josephine
the little man has a dream
goes and gets a big machine
then Wellington comes on the scene
has a better sailing team
sends our little fiend off to Elba

He took Italy, Spain and Prussia
which is Germany and Poland now
but it sounds like Russia
you won’t find Russia on a map of Europe anymore
it was an empire that failed
what should we learn about that for?

He knew how to set a goal and say I think I can
which doesn’t sound French, but he was Corsican
so when you lose the game don’t sit on the bench
Napoleon ruled France, and he wasn’t even French

In his coffin, inside his French cut suit
his body they say is missing the manly root
it was embalmed, we could stick it back on but who could tell
by now the rest of him is missing as well.

Track Name: Sometimes I Feel Too Much
Sometimes I feel too much
and then I can’t feel anything at all
too many phones ring in my head
I don’t answer any call
I close my door, sit in my room
wait for my heart to come round
sometimes I feel too much
and the machine shuts down

I offer my regrets that only part of me is here
a moment of adversity and my heart disappeared
it just seems to happen
It not something I try to do
it’s like I’ve got a boat and the boat has a hole
and my heart falls through.

But you know
and you see
My heart has disappeared
can you find it for me

The muscle that knows how to just carry on
attaches in the back
it acts as a sort of shield for the heart
protecting it from attack
it engages in emergencies
take one more step - now try
cause it will not help to sit down on the sidewalk and cry

Please may I come home now?
I cannot find my heart
they are shouting they are shouting
shooting rockets in the park

Track Name: I'm Afraid The Song Is Broken
I’m afraid the song is broken
it cannot be repaired
it used to be there was a sort of magic there
it moved like a body
not like a machine
I’m afraid I have broken a dream

This is not the first time all the light has fallen out
the red pen, the eraser, the scissors, the doubt
chiseling away at a living sound
and now my song is lying on the ground

I tried so hard and so long
I asked too much from one song
but when the light falls out, the magic does too
trying’s the one thing I know how to do

like you and like me a song can get tired
there’s a downside to being a really good tryer
you wear out you loved ones, you wear out your friends
this time let’s try not trying again

In Florence there’s a statue that Michelangelo
tossed out into his yard
he broke it apart and threw it away
a frustrated day

so hard so long
broken statues, broken songs
when the light falls out, the magic does too
trying’s the one thing I know how to do
trying is what I know how to do.

Track Name: Your Old Age
I am the bearer of the very bad news
one more part of the world that you have to lose
it’s not something that either of us would choose
for your old age

You stand by the door as mad as you are
you hold in your hand the keys to your car
you say I don’t drive fast and I don’t drive far
in your old age

I am honestly glad you are fighting and trying
not giving in and waiting for dying
so here I am driving home crying
from your old age

Pieces of now and pieces of then
pieces of trouble we can never mend
next week I will come see you again
in your old age

we gather together and try to find
a way we are not felled from behind
by what this is doing to your heart and mine
your old age

Track Name: The Night The Reindeer Fly
The tree by the courthouse is lit up bright
we’ll drive around town and look at all the lights
something about this all feels right
on the night the reindeer fly

maybe a wreath on the door
maybe the relatives won’t keep score
maybe I won’t worry what it’s all for
on the night the reindeer fly

Do you remember when you searched the sky
what did you look for way up high
can you believe the night the reindeer fly

The ship of memory it’s a big boat to steer
the ghosts on the deck hovering near
can you remember and still be here

Bring in the forest, string it in lights
let the gift you open be your heart that night

Track Name: If I Were A Bird
If I were a bird And  I could fly through time
I would not leave behind this sorrow
‘cause I would lose the sweet things
and no matter what the day brings
I would not trade it in for tomorrow

If there was a way to make it all right now
I would not leave behind this sorrow
The gold and the grey, the colors of the day
I would not trade it in for tomorrow

The motherless child the wandering stranger
ride round the corner and right into danger
all the ways that today might fall thru
But I would not fly away from one moment with you

Here in the station
where we meet and we part
happiness rolls in and carries off my heart
the best we can do is try to choose the right track
some trains roll in and they don’t come back

Track Name: Woody Guthrie Watch Over Me
November is falling
I am driving through the dark
I know every night you cannot feel strong
I am on my way to the next church basement
I’ve got coffee, a map and a song

As I ramble around the highways
Woody Guthrie watch over me
All I know is how to go from town to town
and watch the peaches fall down from the tree
Woody watch over me

I have a few songs and miles of memory
of how most lives are not beyond repair
there are ways the world is broken
but I can say for certain
most people are good most everywhere

I am on my way to the next part of nowhere
I am looking for the center and the light
my father hoped I’d be someone of renown
I am driving to a new town tonight.
