    This is my pandemic songbook. These songs are the gift I received from the year of isolation and shut-down; with a couple of exceptions they were all written between March 2020 and April 2021. Most of these songs were recorded in our home; they sound like me and Charlie singing at our kitchen table.

I wrote this for myself and for some longtime musician friends. Like many people, we started out not really knowing what we were doing but we had the energy of youth. Now we are older and we know a lot more, but we are dealing with the mortality of the body.

Here’s how we float down the river bailing the boat all the way

some little god swims under the boat pushing it day and night
our early water it’s long gone out of sight

we never learned all of the theory we did a lot of it wrong

I painted some words under the gunnel up by the bow
I painted yes I painted no I painted somehow
And oh my brave companions bailing along with me
words inside your boat no one else can see

some little god under the boat pushing it day and night

You learn a lot of the theory trying to get through the song
you learn a lot of what’s right from how you’re doing it wrong
